Honorable Former Justice Prabha Sridevan

previously a Judge of the High Court of Madras was elevated to the High Court Bench in March 2000. Smt. Jus. Prabha Sridevan held the position of Chairpersonship of the Intellectual Property Appellate Board (IPAB) from 2011 - 2013. Smt. Justice Prabha Sridevan has given judgments in several important cases such as Yahoo v. Controller & Rediff, Tata v. Unilever and Financial Times v. Times Publishing House. Smt. Sridevan has been credited with efforts to bring IPAB back on track, and the manner in which she lobbied for extra resources for the same. Justice Sridevan is also a member of the International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ). During her time as a Madras High Court judge, Justice Prabha Sridevan made important steps for women's rights in m any landmark judgments, including a judgment legitimizing women's work as home makers and a judgment on mandatory marriage registration. Another noteworthy case was The Da Vinci Code case, where the Court removed the ban on The Da Vinci Code movie, ensuring continued Freedom of Expression. She has also written a number of articles for The Hindu, which speak for women's rights and the role of judges in promoting women's rights. In 2012, Justice Prabha Sridevan was named one of fifty Most Influential People in the IP World by Managing IP.

Ms. Cynthia Cannady

Ms. Cynthia Cannady is a principal and founderf IP oSEVA. She is an expert in intellectual property strategy and technology licensing. She holds a juris doctor degree from Harvard Law School and a bachelor degree with honors from Stanford University. She is a member of the Bars of the State of California and the District of Columbia. Prior to founding IP*SEVA in 2007, Ms. Cannady was Director of the Intellectual Property and New Technologies Division at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland, where her responsibilities included direction of activities and international training programs relating to IP strategy, licensing, technology transfer, valuation, and IP asset management. (2001-2007).  She is a frequent speaker on IP strategy and IP licensing at various institutions across the world. She regularly teaches and organizes programs on IP licensing, technology transfer, IP laws and policies relating to research institutions, and patent drafting. She has to her repute several books and international publications.

Dr. Mira T. Sundara Rajan is a scholar and law professor specializing in intellectual property law. Dr. Mira currently works as an expert consultant on intellectual property matters. She deals regularly with complex copyright and trademark problems, and has a special interest in the moral rights of authors and artists. She held the Canada Research Chair in Intellectual Property Law at the University of British Columbia Faculty of Law (2005-11), where she was also a tenured Associate Professor of Law and Founding Director of the IP Law Program (2004-11). Prior to coming to UBC, she was a Herchel Smith Fellow in Intellectual Property Law at the Queen Mary IP Research Institute, University of London (2002-04). In Canada, her research has been supported by two Standard Research Grants from SSHRC. Dr. Mira is also professionally active as a classical pianist and writer.

Prof. N.S. Gopalakrishnan

Dr. N. S. Gopalakrishnan is a professor in the School of Legal Studies, Cochin University of Science and Technology. He was the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Kannur University, Kerala. He worked as an Additional Professor in the National Law School of India University, before joining School of Legal Studies, Cochin University of Science and Technology in 1997. Prof. Gopalakrishnan has published two books and has several international and national research papers to his repute. His work spans across a wide range of contemporary issues in Intellectual Property Law. He was an expert adviser to the Indian Delegation to the Diplomatic Conference on WIPO Treaties, 1996. He is also a member of expert committees set up by the Government of India on IPR issues.

Mr. Jos, Patent Strategy Coordinator at Texas Instruments (TI), is respon-sible for overseeing patent operation for TI in the Asia–Pacific region. He has expertise in strategic patent man-agement and licensing, designing and execution of IP strategy in high-tech industries.

Mr. S. Majumdar graduated in Science from Calcutta University and started his career as a Technical Assistant in the Patent Department of a reputed Patent Law Firm. He went on to accomplish his degree in law, and is also a registered Patent Agent. He is a leading member of the legal team of S. Majumdar & Co. and handles litigations in all branches of IPR. He has to his merit several successful passing off and other critical IPR Court cases. Amongst his other activities - he is vibrantly supporting the cause of awareness of IPR in India in Universities, Government and Private Labs and Corporates and also the Indian Patent Office. He also specializes in licensing in different IPR related matters. Mr. Majumdar has been an active part of various workshops and seminars as faculty on Patents, copyrights, Trademark and other IPR related issues. He has also several publications to his credit.
