FAQs
1. Since most students do not have any previous background in Business, how can they be prepared for the more demanding courses?
Ans: That should not be an issue. Some IIMs offer 5-year Integrated Program in Mgt for students who completed 12th standard. Integrated MBA program after 12th standard is well established in Engineering colleges as well. Apart from that, in our 2-year full-time MBA program in every batch, we have freshers to the extent of 10%-15% of class size.
2. Will a student be considered for the other specialization if he/she is not selected for the other one? Eg- if a student whose priority was finance doesn't get selected, so would he/she have considered for operations management or not?
Ans: No, the student has to decide on their choice of specialization and select only one specialization at the time of submitting the application.
3. Would the opportunities that IDDDP students get in SJMSOM placements be the same as the students doing a full-fledged MBA?
Ans: Yes, while comparing with full-fledged MBA students with similar specialization. Some full-fledged MBA students may prefer to spread their elective courses among two/three areas, instead of specializing in a single area. Those students may get different job profiles. If the job profile does not require specialization IDDDP students also will be eligible with full-fledged MBA students.
4. Will the selections depend upon projects undertaken? What if a student is interested but has not done any project or course earlier?
Ans: Yes, to some extent selection depends on the projects. There will be some weightage for the projects undertaken by the students. The focus of the interview will be a) Subject knowledge b) General Awareness and current affairs with reference to corporate/economy, both domestic and international, and c) Communication skills.
5. Would an IDDDP student allowed to sit for placements through PT cell IITB along with SOM placements, or he/she will be restricted to SOM placements only?
Ans: You need check this with Prof in Charge of IIT placement or IIT placement cell. If you get a placement opportunity at IIT placement as well, you need to choose either placement at SJMSOM or placement at IIT.
6. If I do finance specialization then will I be eligible to sit for other specialization jobs which come through the SJMSOM placement cell i.e. will all companies be open for all irrespective of the specialization?
Ans: Yes, if the position does not require specialization everyone is eligible for such opportunities. No, if the position requires a particular specialization and it is different from your specialization.
7. How many students will be selected for the interview round?
Ans: Depends on the number of applications, it may range from 3:1 to 5:1
8. Will this process start after 18th June, which is after the applications of the IDDDP?
Ans: Yes. Last date for applications is 18 June. Interview process may by scheduled either in the last week of June or first week of July.
9. Is it compulsory to have a professor as a guide in the application, or we can get the prof after the selection?
Ans: No, it is not compulsory. The project will be during the 9th semester, so there is no need of identifying a professor at the time of application. However, if it is a piece of essential information to complete the form, the student can choose area chair :
Prof. G. K. Adil ( adil@iitb.ac.in, for operations management specialization )
Prof. S.N. Rao ( narayan@iitb.ac.in, for finance specialization )
10. And is it mandatory that the professor who will be our guide has to be from an Operations or Finance background, or can we choose the other professors like that of marketing or strategy as our guide for the IDDDP project?
Ans: As the project will be either in Finance or OM area, the guide will be from the concerned area, if required co-guide can be from another area.
