Prof. Ananth Narayan Gopalakrishnan is a Professor of Practice at the Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management, IIT Bombay. With over three decades spanning global banking, market regulation and academia, he served as Whole Time Member of SEBI from October 2022 to October 2025, overseeing market intermediaries, foreign portfolio investors and alternative investment funds, integrated surveillance, economic policy analysis and information technology. His earlier banking career of more than two decades covered Citibank, Deutsche Bank – where he was Managing Director and Head of Global Rates, South Asia – and Standard Chartered Bank, as Regional Head of Financial Markets for ASEAN and South Asia across 12 countries.

He has chaired the board of Standard Chartered Bank Nepal and served as a director on the boards of CDSL, FIMMDA, FEDAI and Standard Chartered Securities (India), besides serving on several RBI and SEBI advisory committees on foreign exchange, interest rate derivatives, financial benchmarks and financial stability. Before joining SEBI he was Associate Professor of Finance and Head of Public Policy at SPJIMR, Mumbai. He holds a PGDM from IIM Lucknow, where he received the Director’s Gold Medal, and a B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering from IIT Bombay.
