In 1995, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) visualized to have a Management School for nurturing innovation and excellence in all fields of management with a mission to have the natural advantage of integration of Engineering and Social Sciences, along with interdisciplinary field of studies at IITB campus to provide management education, research and training.
The School named as the Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management (SJMSOM), as an academic unit of IITB, has its distinct place as a national and global business management school. SJMSOM offers post-graduate [Master of Management (MOM) and Ph. D.] programmes and, recently, has launched an Executive MBA, jointly with the Washington University at St. Louise, USA. School provides a well- designed curriculum and training to the students preparing them to meet the contemporary challenges in their professional life ahead.
SJMSOM has experienced and young full time Core Faculty in all functional areas of management, who are engaged in teaching, research and outreach activities. School also has many Associate Faculty from other Departments / Schools / Interdisciplinary Groups and Visiting Faculty from the industries that add value to our programmes. The expertise of faculty is the main strength of the school that facilitated us to have a distinctive global professional standing. IITB offers its faculty academic independence, opportunities for research / consulting and freedom to explore new expertise.
Students at the school get opportunity to interact with faculty associated in all domains such as IT, Bio-informatics, Industrial Design, Rural Development, Climate and Sustainable Growth and Transportation Planning to appreciate technology and apply in management. They have access to diverse student population (engineering, sciences, social sciences and others) and elective courses outside academic unit of the management. Our students interact with members of IITB campus community that has a very rich green campus life. Ph.D. students have leverage to work on joint research with wide research fraternity of IITB.
Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE) and Entrepreneurship Cell (eCell) provide opportunity to all stakeholders of IITB to learn from the experiences of budding ventures. SJMSOM is one of the five select founding member institutes of the National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN). The School has a continuous process of interaction with industry leaders through Seminars, Lectures and other students’ festivals / events / continuum / activities (clubs) related to all functions of Management. Today, our alumni serve at the different leadership positions in the various private, public, multinational, government and non-profit organizations.
